If you have twenty positive numbers that have an average of 20, then their total sum is 400. To find what the highest possible could be you have to sum the lowest possible 19, (which would be 1 through 19 = 190,) and see what you have to add to them to make 400.

Assuming whole numbers, the lowest possible out of 19 numbers is the SUM of 1-19, or 190. In order to average 20, 20 numbers must sum to 400, which makes the remainder 210 or the largest possible 20th number...
