personally, I think a gold fish ranks up there among the top contenders. but if that's the choices, hamster, gerbil, guinea pig and then chinchilla - in that order.

A hamster. They sleep during the day. You can go about 2 weeks before changing their cage which all you have to do is discard the old bedding, spray and wipe with vinegar water, and put in new bedding. It is an extra for them if you give them attention and stuff, and some attention is required.
Guinea pigs require much attention! They need changed 1-2 times a week and are like dogs kind of.
Gerbils chew through whatever you put them in.
Chinchillas need a lot of attention.
So go with a hamster!

Chinchillas aren't really pets you can interact with so much; they are more fun to watch, as they tend to become timid when handled. They do require a lot of care, though, due to their requirements for a desert environment.

Guinea pigs are quite social creatures, so they need a lot of human interaction. As far as care, all they need is a clean cage, toys, food, water, vet care, but that can take up some time.

Gerbils are among the more social of rodents. If you have a few in a cage (to keep eachother company) they'd be fine, but they still (along with hamsters) require a clean cage, food, water, toys, and some human interaction. Out of your list, they probably require the least amount of care.

If you are looking for a pet that doesn't require much care, try a betta fish in a fishbowl. You have to change the water every so often, and remember to feed the fish, but other than that, they are hardy little fish that come in awesome colors, and they dont' require much care.

Hope this helps!

Those are all stinky ones to clean up after. Chinchilla's require live bugs for food. Gerbils are just hamsters with long tails. Guinea pigs make that annoying sound that will keep you up at night until you're used to it. Fish...or a bird are good starters. Maybe even a rabbit? good luck!

Hamster and gerbil equal, although golden hamsters are probably the most friendly and placid. Gineau pigs are bigger so need more space and exercise, they also smell a bit more. With chinchilla's, you have to make sure that they stay at a certain temperature or they can go into shock. I had stick insects once and they were the easiest and virtually free to keep. They are really interesting to watch- they shed their skins, it's really nifty!

I would think a gerbil. I have a hamster and he's a handful and i've only had him since May. I can't imagine how messy a guinea pig or chinchilla would be.

If your primary concern is low maintenance, then you probably don't need to be taking care of another living creature. A pet is supposed to be just that... a pet..not something left in a cage/pen all the time, with food/water tossed at it on occasion.

well NONE of they above require no care but a hamster is pretty easy to take care of but ferrettes need both feline and rabbies vaccinations because of the breed it can be exspensive...also they get into alot i do mean ALOT and they chew everything they can get they greedy lil paws on:-)...a grbil is about the same to care for as a hamster but a smaller rodent...a guinie pig needs room to roam somewhat..but easy to care for you need to keep cages clean always a chin chilla is fun but im not sure about whether they need shots or not though....good luck and remember pets are a big respncibilty wether small or big they ALL need LOVE and attention...

The answere to your question would probably have to be Gerbil or Hamster. Reasons include Guinea pigs are lame and you have to constantly feed them and chinchilla's are rather larger....Although Hamsters breed really fast...be careful

Why do you want a pet but don't want to take care of it?

Get a pet rock you lazy.....

All of those require fresh water daily, clean cages every 3-4 days and fresh food daily.
