If you want to get it out in one so you can sell it, there is no easy way, as the fireplace will be cermented in with metal ties, about 5" depth, which will need to be dug out. Can be done but worth haveing it valued first, you will find a restoration company in yellow pages for this.
EASY WAY hammer and brute force wear safty gear, have a bucket of plaster to fill the wall in after.

Ugh... these answers for ebay and not really giving an answer are getting irritating. Grrrrrrrr....
Ok, you will need a mason or floor chisel, a dead blow hammer or heavy mallet, a pry bar, gloves and of course, safety first, goggles.
What you will want to try to do is get the marble off in as big a piece as possible, if it is marble tile, then you will have to work piece by piece. The chisel should be used if you cant get a good footing to place your pry bar, and of course the mallet goes without saying. All you will be doing is trying to get under one side and lift. I say try to avoid breaking the marbel too much as they can be salvagable by yourself, or by someone in your area looking for some marble for a project. I say save it and put it out at your next yard sale. Never mind the advice of some people saying oh, ebay. The shipping is a killer, and totally not worth the effort. Trust me, a yard sale would prove your best bet.
Good luck.

I always take into consideration the sloth and ignorance of others. Therefore it is probably applied with Liquid Nails. Forget about saving it, marble tiles are only a few bucks apiece. With eye protection on, pry them off and chuck them.

if it is marble, you may be able to get money for it, call a professional company or a reclamation yard and see what they say, dont smash it up.
