the orthopaeditian is the best one to consult for any neck and back stiffness.only he can know why the stiffness id and then can treat accordingly.a physical therapist will give only symptomatic treatment which will not eliminate the cause of stiffness.

I'd go with a chiropracter first, that's the sort of stuff they deal with. Of course if you don't mind multiple visits, you can start with your primary care physician and get a referral. But I'm the kind of person that if I've got a foot problem, I'll see a podiatrist...

I think recommendations from others who have seen a particular doctor are most helpful... If you have any co-workers or neighbors who recently saw a physical therapist, ortho surgeon etc, find out what their experience was like.

Find a good Osteopathic Doctor. He/she will combine manipulation therapy with other medical treatments such as pain relievers and if needed surgery.

DO's also make good family doctors as they treat the whole body and not just some symtoms.

Depends on if the stiffness is from an injury, stress, disease, etc.

Go to your primary physician first and see where he sends you.
