Being a fan of Joe Girardi, what kind of knucklehead owner would get rid of a winner like Joe? With a team comprised of 22 rookies and a payroll of 15 million he almost overtook the wildcard before doing a lat September fade. Joe's going to look good in a Cubs uniform next year. Anyone agree?

Well, Loria has a track record of falling out with managers - look at Felipe Alou in Montreal - and asset stripping, which is probably the next thing on his mind with the Marlins. I hear the Yankees have a great pitching prospect in Trenton, lets trade Cabrera for him....

That's a great point about the almost impossible job Beinfest has, but Girardi has took what was essentially a very good AAA team and turned them into a competative force at least two years before most managers would've done so. The Cubs would appear to be a natural fit for Girardi but it will certainly be interesting how he deals with a team of cynical veterans over a young and eager staff, which he had at Florida.

Because of this, I wonder if the Nationals are in with a chance of getting Girardi?

If Jeffrey Loria wasn't hated then, he definitely is now. The Marlins were written off early in the season, yet they lasted in the playoff race until the final weeks of the season. Loria is going to have a hard time replacing Joe Girardi as manager and finding the success Joe had with that team. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Joe Girardi managing the Cubs next year.

It was a dumb move by Loria, but I think some people are getting carried away here.

Giving Girardi the credit for doing well with the Beckett deal (getting Sanchez and Ramirez for him) takes away from the great job done by Larry Beinfest. Yes, Girardi did well with a bunch of youngsters, but all of those guys he was given are an extremely talented bunch - they're just green and need time to develop, which is where Girardi did a great job. If you took the time to read Baseball America's prospects book, you'd know that the Beckett deal was a good one for the Marlins because Ramirez and Sanchez were both very touted.

I'm not saying Girardi isn't an improvement over Baker - he really is - but don't expect a comparable turnaround in Chicago. It's one thing to work with a group of talented youngsters, but quite another to work with an injury-riddled, overpaid bunch of veterans.

Loria is one of the worst owners in the history of baseball.. Girardi had these guys playing hard EVERY day.. He made the trade of Josh Beckett for Anibal Sanchez and Hanley Ramirez a wash in favor of the Marlins.. They have at least 4-5 NL Rookie of the Year Candidates not to mention a stellar Minor League System.. Loria is just another example of an owner who wanted take credit for this years resurgence of the Marlins when in reality it was all the Manager..

I agree. Apparently, Girardi and Loria did not get along. Sometimes personality gets in the way. His loss, Cubs gain.

I am neither a fan or foe of Girardi but he certainly did not deserve his fate. He needs to be commended for his actions by suggesting the owner stop baiting the umpire during a game. He also took a team of misfits, who made more in per diem than salary, to a respectable season. My guess is Joe goes to San Francisco. Why? Because his wife will prefer the Bay area over Chicago. Girardi respects his wife's opinions.

It was a dumb move, but it makes me happy because now Girardi can come to the Cubs where he belongs!

I think him and the owner disagreed on matters.

I hope The Cubs pick him up.

Would love to see The Cubs win a few games.
