They have the same release dates. Is one better than the other?

Basically the same things, but the Xeon is for servers and workstations and the Core 2 Duo is for desktops. They are not interchangeable because they use different sockets.

Hye!

Intel Dual-Core Xeon has been specifically made for the servers so as to handle their performance better.... and has extensive support for RAID and other server specific requirements.... and hence they are expensive

While Intel Core 2 Duo is basically meant for the home and professional users..........basically for workstations and PCs......

Xenon is for Server computers in a network.
core duo is a standard Desktop computer.
