Wise. We are all illegitemate children of our own destiny.
So taking it apart:
We have a destiny, - a course to follow.
An illegitemate child is an unexpected consequence.
So if our lives are the unexpected consequence of our own destiny...
No, I don't get it either. Sorry.

Crazy and a little unwell are the same thing. Crazy people are generally carry much wisdom. Mainly due to experience from their pain and suffering.
You basically described every philosopher throughout history.

Following your own destiny, being the master of your destiny as it were, will result in your being a bastard to the life you choose. If you follow someone else's destiny, as in Jesus or other religious figure who tells you how to live, then you're not a bastard but a follower, believer and one of the flock.
Make me a bastard of my destiny any day.

That is escapism. We should assume responsibiity for even Tsunami and Iran's desire to develop nuclear weapons. But, some times series of events happens in one's life which may look like, destiny. But, it is actually the ripening of the previous bad Karmas. If you do good now, tomorrow you will get the good result mentally as well as physically.

He could be unwell. Believing that everything is destiny and that people have no free will is either depressing, or, in some instances, freeing - if I have no control, if everything is destined, then why worry?

Destiny is the result of the choices that we make in life ever moment of every day. Every choice that we make affects our destiny untill the day we die. After we have reaced our destination then fate takes over and decides what to do with us based on those very choices.

well if he was crazy i don't know how he could have a job. and when you mean unwell do you mean like sick unwell i think he was just mad about something and just said something a little weird to you.

it sounds to me as if he is unwell, very unwell, sick of work anyhow.
tell him that the consolation of life and philosophy is that the wheel goes around,- bastard today, master tomorrow!
