I've seen this advertised, and someone on here has just mentioned it. What is it?

Okay.
The Wii is Nintendos next console and it is coming out on December 8th for £179 and comes with a game.
The controller is shaped like a T.V. remote so anyone can pick up and play. (even those who have a phobia of controllers) It can detect a full 360 degree of motion unlike the PS3's measly 6. It also has a pointing device so you can point at things on the TV. For example if you were playing a shooting game, you'd point at the enemy and press a button and you'd shoot at it. It also has a speaker in the 'wiimote'. You can attatch accessories to it, like the Nunchuck (an analogue stick plus a few extra buttons), and the Classic controllerI. It can connect to the internet and stay connected 24 hours a day at the same amount of energy as running a lightbulb - (think about it, you leave your alarm clock on all day don't you!) This means you can recieve updates on games - new maps, characters, levels, weapons and more- all for free (well apart from the cost of your broadband connection) Now to the Wii channels. There are lots of channels on the Wii- see wii.com for details. These are meant to boost the amount of TV channels you have. One of them lets you create a Mii- a in-game representation of yourself which you can then store on your controller, take round a friends house and play on their machine, with your Mii. These take you into the game as yourself. For example, in Wii Tennis (Included in the game Wii sports which is free with the console) upload your Mii and you can play as yourself on the TV. There are many more channels including Photo channel, which lets you edit photos with an SD card, Forecast channel, which is a bit like Google Earth except it tells you the weather anywhere in the world on your 3D earth, News channel, which tells you the news and Shop channel, which lets you buy retro games from Nintendo's past (and other old consoles too) to be stored on the Wii's internal memory drive (512MB) or an SD card. You can also surf the internet on the Wii for free (until Summer 2007 when you will have to make a one-off payment of around £20-£30). Also there is the Wii message board. Here, you can post messages for the whole family to read and even send SMS messages (probably will cost) or messages to other Wii systems probably will not cost) with pictures! Your games can send you messages too! It can play Wii games (RRP £34-39) and gamecube games. See www.wii.com for more details. In a racing game you can turn the controller on it's side and use it as a steering wheel, actuall turning left and right.
Whew...
For launch games see websites such as Game or Amazon.

It's nintendo's newest games console. It should be out by Christmas.
It's got a remote control that you wave around in the air rather than using a traditional joypad.
