A few ways you can tell. But each person and each relationship are different, these tips can vary from person to relationship.

They only call you when they want something.
Always ask to borrow money or things.
Often calls to complain about their lives and never ask about you.
The conversations are often one sided. (about them)
They always want to go to your place and use your things.
They only get together with you when it's convenient and you provide all the transportation.
They never call you on your birthday or offer small gifts for holidays, but expect you to buy them things and call them.
Always want to use your computer, phone, DVD player, etc.
Always on their cell phone when you are supposed to be visiting each other.
They never call you unless it's about one of the reasons above.

These are some of the most common ways to figure out if a "friend" is not being a true friend and are using you.

Signs Someone Is Using You

Being used isn't only seen in a a guy/girl sexual relationship. Using can be seen between friends. If a friends only ever asks if you wanna go somewhere if they don't have a ride.... they are using you as their ride.
If the person is constantly "borrowing" your money.... they are using you as a personal ATM
If the person only wants to hang out with you on their terms and when they have no one else to hang out with.... they are using you as a backup plan
Take my advice... Ditch them. Chances are you are much better than them and you definitely can find a friend that will treat you much better. It will only be a waste of you time, energy, money, gas, and everything else if you keep catering to this users needs.

The only thing that comes to my mind is the movie Deep Throat where the doctor is funneling coca-cola in to Ms. Lovelace's holiest of holies and drinking it out. LMAO Beer sounds much better to me but I was thinking that could cause a yeast infection so maybe it's best just to drink that straight from the bottle! :)

I think the bigger question is: do you mind if they are?

Being used would conotate that it is a one way relationship, more likely based on sex. If that is true, and you derive little to no pleasure from it, then yes, you are being used.
Other types of being used refer to business contacts, money, personal gratification, etc.
If you don't get anything out of being with the person, then bail - it's not worth it.

It depends on what you mean by using you.
If they always wanna borrow money, you always pay for things, they wanna use your car.
You are being used.
If someone is always asking you for something you are being used.

do they come over just to hang out...or are they always asking for something or expecting something by hanging out with you? Next time they come over, tell them that you won't be doing much, just watching tv...see how long they stay or if they show up at all

You can just tell....if they treat you like an equal that means they care and wouldn't want to use you. A user will just keep on taking and taking and never give back.
