With all of the recent school shootings buy upstanding citizens and students, wouldn't it be safe to assume that guns aren't only dangerous in the hands of criminals? For all those who dispute the fact that the people who used guns to commit carnage in schools were everyday Joes, their family, friends and neighbors who knew them best said they were.

Of course in actuality we know these people aren't everyday Joes, but they're everyday enough to buy guns.

Because guns give the impotent people who covet them a power that they don't have in there own lives and then some act upon this false sense of power and attack the innocent.

I think that the moment this guy walked into a school yard with guns, he became a criminal.

I KNOW the moment he took the kids hostage, he was certainly a criminal.

ALL criminals are ordinary joe's until they commit their first crime. Your question is an example of how so-called "facts" can be twisted and distorted to promote an erroneous point of view.

NO ONE has EVER said that guns are only dangerous in the hands of criminals. FACTS show that more gun related deaths and injuries occur at the hands of "ordinary Joes" and innocents that misuse or mishandle houshold weapons.

Facts will persuade me more readily than fallacies.

People who shoot school children are not "everyday Joes." At least, not where I come from. Where do you live?

Guns prevent WAY more crimes than are committed with them. You just don't see that information splashed all over the news because it's not exciting. Every time a crime is prevented with a gun, it's not necessarily reported.

I keep a shot-up target pinned to my front door (lots of 9mm bullet holes in the 10 ring). Do you think a criminal wants to break into my home to see whether or not I'm bluffing? My gun may have prevented me from being a victim, and I'll never know.

For the record, I'm not bluffing. I could easily kill any intruder in my home. It's a comforting feeling.

It justs goes to show that the word "criminal" can not describe a specific person. Its so stereotypical, people's minds are a scary thing and when certain people can't get a grip on reality then stuff like this happens. Guns can be dangerous in the hands of all people.

Guns are dangerous in the hands of anyone if the gun is used to commit a crime. It is far too easy for people to get guns who have no business with them. "Everyday Joe" doesn't kill kids. There are some sick people out there, it is a dangerous world.

Uh, people who shoot children ARE criminals!! Just because he had no record does not make him an everyday Joe.

People like you scare me. You actually want guns outlawed? How would the innocent protect themselves from the criminals with guns? Look at the state with the most crime. California. It has the strictest gun laws in the nation. Does it help?? No!!

we are all born "everyday Joes", when someone commits a crime, they become a criminal. The gun is a tool, evil is in the heart, if evil is your goal, any tool that will accomplish your goal will be viable. Banning guns will not change men's hearts.

I am from lancaster ,pa which is right outside of this place. This just goes to show that people who typically " look" like they are o.k. aren't always. Murderers don't have a certain look. It is very sad what has happened to these families. I can't imagine what could happen in this sick world. My prayers are with these families.

I don't think you can lump a man who shoots young girls in a school after binding and holding them hostage an "average Joe." Once you cross the line and commit murder, I think it's fair to use the term "criminal."

*Tear* Stop whining, get off your duff and do something! I absolutely do not like guns, but the mere tone of your question just hit a nerve. Do you really think the guy that shot those kids is an 'everyday Joe'?

I am so sick of listening to people sit around and whine about what they think is wrong, and do nothing to fix it. Get off your damn computer, get out there, and go do something!
