I'm not sure "Investment" is the best term here. However, I believe I understand your question.

It's completely up to you. However, from my perspective, Yes. The price difference nowadays is minimal. They use considerably less power, take up less desk space, and are better for your eyes. Not to mention when used with a DVI connection at native resolution, the image is considerably sharper than a CRT can provide.

Also, they are lighter and easier to handle than CRTs, they generate less heat, you get more screen real-estate for the same size equivelent (ex. a 17" CRT gives you only about 16" of usable space, while a 17" LCD will give you all 17 inches to view), they cost less to ship in the event of a repair need...

I could go on and on, but essentially Yes - A good LCD (don't go cheap!) can easily last the life of 2-3 desktops, saving you that cost in the future, and it will look better to boot!

No, it is an expense not an investment and it will not generate any income. You may get more space on your desk, but you can't really use it, because it is hard to access stuff behind your monitor and you can't have anything in front of you. If you need a huge monitor like 21" or so then it becomes very practical, but for smaller ones, it doesn't do a whole and the resolution is actually not as sharp as a regular CRT monitor.

An LCD TFT Screen has following benefits over a normal CRT monitor:

1. Saves Space.
2. Saves Electricity.
3. Provides better resolution.
4. Provides strain free viewing and is harmless to eyes as CRT's emit X-Rays which are highly harmful to eyes.

An LCD screen is much better than a CRT monitor.
But, it isn't an investment. It is a sunk cost, never to appreciate, but only to decline in value. So, I wouldn't call it an investment; if you approach it as an investment, it is a bad one.
