You know, Survivor, Idol, the Bachelor... are they scripted or do people like that really exist? How much of the story is 'guided' by writers/producers? I mean, if it was real people we were working with here, it just wouldn't be that interesting, would it?

ALL TV is FAKE

I saw a special on TV a few months back that talked about this exact thing. It was an hour show that proved that a reality show is about as far you can get from being reality. They showed all kinds of clips, showed behind the scenes stuff from lots of "reality" shows, and spoke with producers, directors, and actors/contestants/people that were in these shows. They talked about how the majority of all the scenes you see are staged, planned, and faked.

The only thing real about these shows is they dont have scripts.

Producers want a bang for their buck, so even though dialog may not be scripted per se, the editors pick and choose those sound a vid bites that are most provocative to the audience.
Idol is pretty genuine, except that the contestants are trying to push their image in a way that will garner votes.
Everyone acts differently when they know the world is watching thru a lens.

I belive that the producers help to push the shows the way it will be most interesting for viewers. I do not believe that people act exactly how they are portrayed.. plus we only see a portion of what goes on so people may only get to see when a character is acting good so they become the hero/heroine or only when someone acts bad so we at home feel they are the bad guy/girl

Staged, the producers have to have some say in the direction of the show. I'd love to see a behind the scenes look at Survivor. I don't believe it's as tough as they make it out to be.

well i think there are people outthere who are like those people in reality shows. but i think the most is fake anyways, what would be so interesting about a person that is so normal, boring and average? nothing! thats why they "pimp" their image. I dont believe that everything is real.

Yeah, I think most of those shows are scripted or at least pushed in a general direction.

I do also. I find very little that is "real" about reality TV. Or at least let me say that those shows depict very little about what is "real" about my life. Thank God.

Oh totally! People don't really act that way in real life.
