I am from India. And here, in some societies, this practice is still very prevalent.

In progressive cities like Mumbai, Culcutta, etc, people have come up with new medical options, like sex-detection of the un-born child through medical examinations and abort if the un-born child is a female.

And in rural areas like some places in Rajasthan, Assam, Hariyrana, etc where medical examinations are not readily available, female infants are killed by inserting them in a big utensil, filled with milk and drowning them in milk.

In many villages of India, the ratio of male:female is increasing. I've also heard of some villages, where there are 600 males, but no females.

If you are in a position to see and enjoy a Bollywood movie on this subject, I'd recommend the movie "Maatru-Bhoomi". If you don't understand Indian language (Hindi), go for a copy with sub-titles.

It was fairly common in Ancient Greece. You don't want a lot of daughters, so families often left their second and third daughters "out in the cold" so as to not have to supply a dowry when they married. This also happened in Rome and, not very often, in Europe during the Middle Ages. It is still practiced today in China. Partial Birth abortions are common there. It also happens in many countries in the world if you believe that abortion is a form of infanticide.

have a nice day.

In China where daughters have always been deemed as undesirable.

In Ancient Greece where weak infants were seen as a strain on society and worth the effort.

Ditto with the Vikings. (I suppose that can really be applied to any society where warfare was a part of daily life.)

In countries like China and India, parents are not happy when they have a dughter because a dughter it's considered as an investment that will leave their families while boys are seen as an honour to give birth to. In India girls abortion are a common practice. In China, where families are only allowed to have one child they usually abort a lot.

The one that comes to mind first is the Egyptian infanticide of hebrew baby boys

Exodus 1:7 - 1:16
And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them. Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land. Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigor: And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigor. And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.

In China, where sons are favored over daughters, there's a fair amount of that going on....

In ancient Sparta, where boys were trained as warriors from the age of seven, infants who were weak or defective in some way were killed....

That's just off the top of my head...

In UK in the late 19th century there were a surprising number of infanticides. Young women didn't want the stigma of pregnancy if they were unmarried and 'overlaid' their babies or paid a midwife to kill them.
