It's all relative. He was a kid when he started in the industry. A lot of "urbanites"(let's keep it friendly) call each other "Dog" as a friendly gesture. A "Lil' Bow Wow" is like a little bark, which was what they recorded, his little bark. Makes perfect sense when you look at it from another perspective.
