I love the card game but don't like to have to go through the game over and over again just to play people in certain areas of the game.

you usually have to play some of the important "lesser" characters to get them. the guy standing on the bridge in the water city has good ones. but also can look online to find who you can win characters and aeon cards from.

i also loved the card game, but if it was stand-alone, how could you get some of the rarer cards?

please read my answer again, as it seems you mistakenly thought that i wrote that i didn't know how to get some of the rarer cards.

however, what i DID write was that if such a stand-alone game existed, in which it was only the card game, how could it be possible in *that game alone* to get some of the rarer cards?

"Triple Triad" it's called.
Nope, you'll have to play it on FF8.
I think FF8 is the best in the series...sure it's a sappy love story, but I'd still buy and play it again.

If you like the game and/or series, check out http://www.ffshrine.org/

It has everything you could possibly want from the FF series.
