I mean, I have seen the dictionary definitions, but to what is something compared to make it quality? Robert Pirsig delves into this in his book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance." Really think about it, and is rather puzzling. Your thoughts?

Very difficult. But for me this always works:

Quality means fit for purpose. A Mini is better quality than a Rolls Royce to the guy who wants a cheap, fun car. The Rolls is better quality to the guy who needs to show he's a tosser.

To the every day hungry teenager a Big Mac is better than the finest meal served in a flash restaurant - its available, affordable, suitably gross to stuff your face with and fills a gap till next time. MacDonalds is a good place to meet your mates too. Importantly, its always the same, wherever you go - the reliability factor is important. The stuff they serve in the Savoy would'nt come close to that teenager's specification.

In other words, quality is what the customer needs, wants or desires. It is never absolute.

A company that makes varnish, sealants and stuff has the slogan; "It does what it says on the tin". That is a good definition of quality.

I think quality is in the eye and mind of the beholder, and the personal value that person places on an item. I would consider a quilt, with crooked stitches and a mismatched pattern, handmade by my grandmother, a much higher quality than an expensive quilt made by the most famous and finest designer. But, I would consider a brand name leather purse made in Italy, a much higher quality than a leather purse made in Mexico and sold at Walmart. With these two items, you can look at both, and tell which one will fall apart after using it, simply by the construction of the purse, and the thickness of the leather.

I think quality is simply an opinion. Products and works of art are considered to be of "quality" when groups of distinguished or famous individuals label them as such. (one man's trash is another man's treasure)

quality is something where every detail has been made sure to be very definitive and affective to it's purpose for a long period of time

I think it is something above the normal grade of things, durable either in use or through time, if it is an idea or other intangible substance.
