Contractions will be strong and get steadily closer together. Your water will break. If you have contractions every five minutes, get to your doctor.

Steady cramping of the belly, back pain included. By steady I mean regular intervals...the ideal is every 5 minutes. Contractions get stronger each time...although a few can be not as bad. Has to last for more than a couple of hours.
I am at 38 with my 2nd. With my first, contractions started off suddenly at 15 minutes apart...and I waited, keeping time, for 8 hours before I called my doctor and asked - no major concern as it took them giving me pitocin to actually dilate. This one, I have only had the Braxton-Hicks, which the doctor explained to me they should only last about 2 hours- anything over that is worth a call in lol.
Honestly, nobody ever really explained it to me, as it seems like everyone I know never really ended up going into labor - they all had scheduled inductions. But when it happened with my first, I knew exactly what it was. There was no mistaking it. Guess I'll have to see if it happens the same way with this one lol.

Good luck!! Doc shouldn't let you go too far over where you're at now, so you may end up being induced. Bet your as ready as I am lol. ;)

I've been worried about the same thing..it's a really good feeling to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm 36 and a half weeks and dilated 3cm, and my doctor told me that I could go anytime, so I've been walking around on the proverbial pins and needles for the last week, wondering when I'll start to feel labor pains, and if I'll even know when I'm in labor. Unfortunately I can't give you any answers to your question, but I thought it might be helpful to let you know that someone else is in the same situation. :-)

Based on my personal experiences, my first pregnancy my water broke before contractions started. In my 2nd pregnancy I started spotting, (had already passed mucus plug) then had contractions, dr. had to break the water. Once the contractions get stronger and closer together and do not go away, then you will definitely now you are in labor. Contractions in false labor normally do not increase in intensity and they stop after awhile.

Once your water breaks, head for the door. If you notice a slight bloody discharge, head for the door. If those Braxton-Hicks come to the point where you can't speak because of the pain, head for the door. If your contractions are coming at LEAST 5 minutes apart for about 1-2 hours ( it seems like a long time to wait I know), head for the door.

when your contractions start they may be small. they will start in the back or the abdomen and it feels like your stomach is cramping up. you can pretty much just go about your normal routine..the cramping will either get worse or go away. you will know when it is time to go in. they will get so bad that you will not be able to walk..you do need to go in before that LOL.
good luck to you and congrats on being a mommy!

ps. your water does not have to break for you to be in labor. the docotor had to break my water w/all 3 of my natural births..the tiwns were c-section so i never got to go into labor.

You know this was scary for me too. I was so unsure how to know that I was getting ready to have my son. Mine was easy though. My water broke at 1am in the morning when I got up to use the restroom. But I worked all day on that day and even went shopping that night. Sometimes people can get lower back pains that hurt really bad. That is a sign. It just depends on your body. But I can assure you, YOU WILL KNOW!

This question is really vague. You might lose your mucus plug, your water might break, and your contractions will get stronger and closer together until they're about 5 minutes or part or less and then you can go to the hospital. Good luck!

if you start having pains lay on your right nide and drink alot of water because it could just be false labour and if it goes away then it is fake but if it gets more intense and closer together then it's real some good ways to start labour is have sex, walk not just a little light walk a breahting hard and sweating walk.
