No, it's all a learned action. For example, when I moved overseas, everything on my car was backwards...I had to learn to shift with the left hand, use turn signals on the other side, etc.
It took a couple of days to learn.
The funny thing is now...years later....especially when I'm tired, I still hit the windshield wipers instead of the turn signal.

For years and years, all cars were stick shift. Cars made in England, or those to be shipped to England had the steering wheel on the right side and the shift lever on the left side of the driver. It was not a problem for all those years.
As transportation officer in Military Government of Germany after the war, I drove many English made cars, and had no problem with shifting with my left hand .

I would venture to say that they adjust. Look at England. Do the right handed people have trouble driving a stick shift car?????

No.
I'm right handed, but when I lived in Japan, I drove on the opposite side of the road with the stick on the other side. It only took me a couple of days to get used to the change.

None at all.
In fact you could almost argue its easier for us, since our dominant hand is staying on the steering wheel, which requires more precision than moving the shift knob

Oddly enough, no.
My biggest pet peeve is measuring cups where if you hold it in your right hand you see 1/2 cup but in your left you see the metric b.s.
