I do not stare, that could be considered rude. As the saying goes, do not judge a book by its cover. You cannot be certain that a person is less fortunate than you by their appearance. Some people may dress in a way that conceals their wealth. If it is apparent that a person or family is less fortunate than I am, I feel pity for them. Because you may have more money or material things than they do, it does not make you a better person. You know, sometimes it is not their fault that they are underprivileged. I try to help them out whenever I can. You should also. You never know if one day by some mishap you could end up in their shoes.

I'm a mental health nursing student so am around the 'less fortunate' all of the time. to think of someone as less fortunate is prejudice and discrimination. some people have had unfortunate circumstances in their lives that are not apparent to the casual bystander. or they may suffer from mental health difficulties. you should never judge a person by appearances solely. so no, i don't stare at people 'less fortunate' than myself.

That's jst it, bcause you know it could b u. I think a large part of why we look is because we wonder the "how did they get here" thing and worry it could be us, just like that. Instead of just staring and wondering and feelin bad about it, why don't u try to eliminate the reason u most likely stare. Walk up to one that u feel ok talkin to and just ask them, then sit down w/ ur self and work through bein' afraid it could b u.

You're not crazy, I just wish there was more I could do to help them get back on the right track. I think that It's a damn shame, these network people can give away thousands of dollars a day and there are still people out there that need just a little help or uplifting.

I think so. It depends on what you are thinking while you are staring. They have a hard time understanding too. When I find myself staring at them, I am thinking, how terrible it must be, or how sad I feel for them. I look at how other people look at them. I think of how fortunate I am that everyone is not staring at me. I understand what you mean.

No, I don't think so. Absolutely anyone can be a victim of their circumstances but there's no reason why you should have to stay in that situation. Everyone has the opportunity to make decisions on who their life will shape. If you decided to take a hit of that crack pipe and smoke you're life away; that's your fault. If you drop out of school, and you're busting your *** at McD's as a career, that was your choice.
So no, I don't feel bad at all. If you really want to improve your life you have to take the steps to do it.

No, I do that sometimes, and I know it's wrong so I really try to stop myself. Although, it depends on the person. I mean, if people at my school aren't wearing American Eagle or Hollister like myself, I am not going to stare ar them. It'd be more likely for me to stare at people on the streets.

I don't stare. I look the other way and walk faster. (that was a joke) i usually give em a couple of bucks, and a smoke if they want it. Most of them can't help being poor at the moment.

i try to not, but i do notice. There's a gentleman I was just thinking about today. In downtown Los Angeles, there are alot of panhandlers(beggars). This guy has no hands and no legs; he scoots around on a skateboard with his stumps. He will just post himself in one spot on a street and people will just give him money. He DOESN'T EVEN ASK! I guess they are grateful they are not him! I talked to him and asked him what happened ~ he said in his country, he stepped on a bomb and it blew all his limbs off! Truly sad to see!!!
