Why wasnt the issue of Gerry Studds ever brought up? he was a democratic congressman who had SEX with a 17 year old boy. he admitted it, but he never apologized for it. he said it was no one's business. he never resigned, but rather he ran again for the position, and was successful. so why is Foley getting so much crap from the dems about a few emails? the dems accuse the reps of not taking responsibility, but why didnt Studds resign the way Foley did at least? why was he reelected after everyone, even voters knew about it?

missus: you do sound like a little girl. you misunderstood the question. the point was not to say who did it first, but to show that there is a double standard. thanks for sharing your liberal stupidity.

Foley is getting the press because he is a Republican and it is just before an election.

The reason for it is simple. There is a double standard created by the left leaning media. If a Republican does, or is even presumed to have done, something wrong, he/she is a public outcast and the Dems (and that 1 "independent") jump all over them. If a Dem does it, then its pushed onto page 11 of the paper, right after some small article about violence in the Middle East. And the Dem lashes out at any attack calling it unfair and accusing the Republicans of one thing or another.

And enough about the whole, "It was over twenty years ago" argument, come on, as if that makes anything ok. The reason that Republicans always say "You did it first" is because its always true. Clinton alone gave Republicans enough "you did it first"s to keep them coming for a while.

And as for that one kid below who kept saying "mommy" "mommy", try discussing things in an adult way or wait till you get a little older.

At the time studds did his thing with a 17 year old which at the time was legal in both Massachusetts and Washington D.C. as the consenting age was and is 16. The scandal then was that studds was gay. fast forward to present day rules in the house of representatives enacted after the studds affair make what Foley did against the rules it doesn't help matters that Foley is the top man on the issue of protecting kids from on-line predators. Also Foley may have broken anti-predator laws he helped pass which makes this scandal a legal issue which it wasn't back in studd's day. Besides unlike christian conservatives liberals really do forgive the sinner and turn the other cheek so Foley's supporters won't forgive him like the Massachusetts voters forgave studds.

Democrats do not have any honor. As the House read their censure of him, Studds turned his back and ignored them and to top it off Studds was re-elected FIVE more terms after the censure!! He never apologized and flaunted his affair with the page--what a SWINE! And shame on the Democrats for letting him get away with this!

Because it was 33 YEARS AGO and he got in trouble for it by the Democratic House of Representatives.

And did you know that at the same time Dan Crane - a conservative was busted for screwing a female page?

Why do you have to justify your perv's behavior by bringing up bad behavior - that was punished - 33 years ago (it was made public 23 years ago).

It's only proof that Republicans actually have NO moral standards. They just pretend to. Anytime one of your people screws up, you always say, "Well, a Democrat did it."

Bush lied. - Well Clinton lied.
Foley misbehaved. - Well, Studds misbehaved.

Do you not understand that you're the ones who try to legislate morality into law? Do you not understand that Studds and Crane were censured by the House, whil e your leadership tried to cover it up?

This sticks on no one but Foley and the Republican leadership, and it drives you nuts because you know it probably cost your people several seats they couldn't afford to lose.

POWER before the protection of children. That's what this is about and that's what your people are guilty of.

I believe that Foley is getting more flack from Republicans than Democrats. They are scrambling to disassociate themselves from him. Democrats can just sit back and watch them tear themselves apart.

Both Studds and the Republican congressman implicated in that scandal (which happened, what, 20 years ago?) were censured by congress.

You're like a little kid whining "But mommy, he did it first!"

And I don't know about y'all, but MY folks raised me better than to use an argument like that. Doesn't matter what ANYONE else did, if I screwed up it was all on me.

In response to your back chat: Yeah, whatever. YOU clearly missed my point . . . which was that it doesn't stinking matter what ANYONE else has done in terms of considering what YOUR boy did.

Crying "double standard" IS whining "but mommy, he did it first." Same. Exact. Thing.

And as far as my supposed stupidity goes: Stupid is as stupid does, Forrest.

Oh, give it up. Let's face it - honor, honesty, integrity and standards of conduct have long fallen from importance to the Democrats, unless the breaches are committed by Republicans.

Why does it seem like Bush supporters suddenly need to dig up 30 year old dirt to try to deflect the issue away from what is happening now?
