You may not have to take the carb off, but you will likely need to take the right handle off. Since you didn't mention what bike you have, don't be surprised if answers are as vague as your question.
The jist of it is that the cable ends have barrels which fit in to mechanisms on both the carb and the throttle grip. After installing a new one, there is a set nut set which you use to tighten the slack out of the cable.
BTW, cables break because they are not getting lubed. You would be wise to lube the clutch cable before you end up stranded.
Don't forget to lube your new cable before you install it.

I easily have switched over the front brake lever right into a throttle on a CR250. My chum had a forged on and needed to experience. I requested him what he might want to flow and he stated "My set off finger". So I bumped off his the front brake assembly thoroughly devoid of taking off the hydraulic strains. I put in a cable form the front brake perch and lever,or a grab perch and lever the different way up. Then put in the throttle cable and a spacer to soak up slack. His acquaintances stated he would die, in spite of the indisputable fact that it worked properly and he not in any respect tried to brake with it. Is your the front brake cable or hydraulic?

Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions.
A single cylinder bike with one carb is completely different from a 4 cylinder bike.
Kawasaki & Honda 4 cylinder bikes are attached at the handlebars differently.
