I have been going out with a guy for the past two months, who I really really like. One problem is that when I am talking to other people about him, there's a slight delay before I remember his name. I keep thinking of, and suppressing, other names first - the name of male friends, my friend's boyfriend's name, the name of my ex from years ago. I am not in love with anyone else, I am not cheating on him, and I have no problems remembering other people's names.
Any ideas on a) why this is, and b) how I stop it happening?
The only thing I can think of is that I haven't liked anyone else as much as I like him for a very long time, in fact since that ex mentioned above. It'd be awful it I ever did call him the wrong name, especially as both he and the ex both have quite unusual names... help!

I should also add that this doesn't happen when I'm with him - only when talking about him to other people.

I'm sorry, but what you say doesn't add up to me.
I don't believe that you are actually attached to this person at any significant emotional level.
You might just be attracted to him physically. You probably like the way he looks and the way the two of you look together. I think that you have misinterpreted this feeling and made yourself believe that there is also an emotional attachment there.

"Good golly saminyoh!
I doubt that anyone can give you a good answer on this one. A possible answer might be acquired through contact with an office manager at a Psychologist's office. She/he might have a method to get an answer without you having to pay for it. Sound possible?
There is always the meta-crawler, yahoo or google to help you search if you want to go further.
Good luck girl!"

That's happened to me too.....although not as long into a relationship as you are now....couple of weeks maybe....
What helped me, is when I was around the new b/f, I called him by name alot,
But, ( and this will sound weird) when I was in elementary school, a teacher was trying to get some of her student to use proper grammar,,,,there was one phrase that we all kept using , that just drove her nuts!!! She made us write the phrase on a piece of paper, and then rip it up, and throw it away,,,,maybe, subconsciously this might work!!! wouldn't hurt.

a) maybe you don't usually call him by his name. Do you have "pet" names like "sweetie" or "honey" that you usually call him?
b) Try using his name more often. Every time you see him say "Hi..(name)". Make using his name a habit.
