For the best possible protection,
Wrap each piece in a soft, lint free, fabric. Then place them in an air tight plastic bag. Zip lock baggies are great for this. They are cheap, so you can buy a large box for only a few dollars.
Try to keep the jewelry separate from the different kinds, i.e. silver with other silver, gold with other gold, costume with other costume, etc... Different metals react different ways, like the copper in one of the fake pieces can ruin the silver. And the hardness of one stone can scratch a softer stone.
