What is your opinion about a Psychology instructor (does not have his PhD yet) who teaches that homosexuality is more about nurture than nature, acknowledges it is a personal opinion, but then fails to note the APA's opposite stance that homosexuality is not a choice? I am disturbed by the insertion of personal opinion, most likely based on religious beliefs from the gist of the class discussion, into a basic Psychology 101 class. Thoughts from anyone?

Is this a TA or actual hired instructor? Given that he has not completed his PH.D. yet I bet he is a TA. If he has supported his position with science, peer reviewed research, etc. that is one thing. I don't believe such research exists to support his postion. The fact that he mentions this is "personal opinion" does not excuse this breach, especially given that Intro Psych students generally have not yet developed the critical analysis skills to figure out what that means. Personally, I think he should be spoken to and told to stop.

Psychology is very speculative. Im studying it myself and have gone pretty far through the classes with straight A's. I have NEVER had a teacher who didnt express their own opinion or thoughts on the subjects they teach. My psy 101 teacher expressed an EXTREME dislike of freud, while my Health Psy teacher agree's with some of his **crazy** theories. (I disagree with freud ALOT). Psychology will never ever be a straight forward this is this and that is that class. Its always going to be theorized and hypothesized till they are all blue in the face. Until the time comes where the entire human brain can be artificially created to work exactly how ours work and we know what every single fiber does and where it goes and what happens... There will never be a lack of opinions in the field. Hope this helps.

i definitely feel there should be equal representation of both ideas, and less personal opinion. if this is a class, the instructor should be impartial and informative, not trying to push some agenda or ideal.
