I would like to know in Pagan or Native ways the meaning of this. On two totally separate occasions a week apart. I have seen a Monarch butterfly on the ground on my daily walks. He always is struggling and will go on my finger/hand if I present it to him. I have a "idea" what this could mean but would like to see if anyone has any other insightful or similar answers.

This has to do with transformation. Moving from one stage to another. An extremely difficult transition, you're stuck somewhere in the middle, unable to get from one side of the transition successfully to the other and settle down again. You must change your current course and/or your place of residence. You know it's wrong (or at lest inhibitive), or you will not be able to proceed forward with your goals. Don't be afraid to ask for or give help. Really interesting opportunities will arise from such exchanges.

Or, the monarchs are migrating and having a difficult time due to cold weather.

Here are some things I found out what people say about
butterflies:

Surprisingly many, many people think of butterflies as symbolizing freedom or something spiritual

Some people believe that butterflies are one of many animal totems are (the animal that guides you through your life, helping you in your decisions and stuff) and if you listen to the signs they help you.

Some people believe butterflies are sweet little God given treasures that flutter by and make us smile. I tend to agree with this catagory.

Some people believe that butterflies are a symbol of freedom.

NATIVE AMERICAN LEGENDS

Native American Totems & Their Meanings

A totem can be the symbol of a tribe, clan, family or individual. Native American tradition provides that each individual is connected with nine different animals that will accompany each person through life, acting as guides. Different animal guides come in and out of our lives depending on the direction that we are headed and the tasks that need to be completed along our journey.

Native beliefs further explain that a totem animal is one that is with you for life, both in the physical and spiritual world. Though people may identify with different animal guides throughout their lifetimes, it is this one totem animal that acts as the main guardian spirit.

With this one animal a connection is shared, either through interest in the animal, characteristics, dreams, or other interaction.

Now, on the meaning of the the butterfly: Metamorphosis, transformation, balance, grace, ability to accept change.

That you feel strongly that this is message clearly indicates that IT IS. :-) Butterflies in general refer to the transformative development of the human life. Butterflies in winged form spend little to no time on the ground. That yours are struggling but willing to take 'a hand up' indicates that you, too, are struggling in an unaccustomed environment/position, but would gratefully accept a little help/information!
- Are you feeling too 'grounded?' Perhaps bogged down to the point of death? Without flight, many of us would die! :-)

Well, I'm not a pagan, but I dated one in high school. So here is what I think that she would say:

You are conflicted about reaching out to help someone who needs your assistance desperately. The problem is that you don't stand to gain anything by helping this individual.

You should re-think your priorities and remember that the greatest joy a human can experience is the joy of helping others.

You see, that's why I never married her.

Butterflies usually repersent joy, but a dying one perhaps is giving you a different message - hard to say. Could have something to do with events in your life right now.

To me, this means that the life you have is not a fulfilling as you are wanting it. Take a look at your spiritual life, is it what you are truely wanting? Butterflys represent soul/spirit/spirituality, and life. You may need to re-examine your routine life.
