Does it snow there every winter? Does it snow there every now and then? What?

I've lived in Las Vegas for most of my life (a total of about 20 years), and it's snowed maybe 10 times. Most of those times we just saw some flakes falling, but it would melt as soon as it hit the ground. Last year it actually accumulated a little (maybe an inch), but melted that same day. We don't get much precipitation at all in Las Vegas (4 inches in a year is average), and hardly any of that is snow.

It snowed once the 2 years I lived there, and what fell from the sky melted before it landed. If you want to see snow in Vegas, go about 30 minutes outside town to Mt. Charleston. Plenty of snow in the winter, you can go sledding, build a snowman, have a snowball fight, then go back down the mountain to live in the great desert weather.

Rarely. Las Vegas receives, on average, one inch of snow per year.

Potentially, it could receive more, though.

Most snow in a winter season:
1) 16.7 inches in 1948-49
2) 13.4 inches in 1973-74
3) 10.2 inches in 1978-79

Greatest snow depth:
1) 8 inches on 1/5/1974
2) 7 inches on 1/12/1949
3) 6 inches on 1/31/1979

Biggest snow storms:
1) 9.7 inches from 1/10/1949 thru 1/12/1949
2) 9.0 inches from 1/4/1974 thru 1/5/1974
3) 7.8 inches from 1/30/1979 thru 2/2/1979

It snows somewhere in the city at least one day every year. On Dec. 17, 2008, about 4 inches fell in most of the city. My kids and I made snowballs and little snowmen at our home on the east side. It also closed the tracks for two days at the go-kart park on the west side where I worked as a manager.

Does It Snow In Nevada

some people reported snow last year. i may have seen a flake, but most likely not. and if it does snow, not everyone sees it, one part of the valley will see it. two years ago i saw some flakes, but they melted before they even hit the ground. on the western mountains its a whole different story. there should be snow up there soon, and it can last until may.
