I have not kept up with the Foley situation for lack of time. I am wondering who decided to come forward about the emails Foley sent the young pages. The news story, whose link I'll attach to this question at the end, says that some of the emails are a year old, some older. Why is this development coming out now, a little over a month before midterm elections? No recognizable republican can take his place in the election with a clear hope to win. Is this a Democrat ploy to hake the voters' faith in the GOP?

I'm not questioning Foley's guilt or innocence, just the timing. If he broke the law he should face justice, regardless of party affiliation

I think that you could be right that the Dems held out on this information until now. Who really knows?
But as for Foley being set up, his own actions have made him an easy target for those who would like to see Republicans loose another seat in the government.

It's certainly not a Dem ploy, as ABC (the station that came out with the story) is owned by an active member of the Republican Party. Yes, the e-mails started about a year ago...but they didn't start getting weird until recently. Also, the IM's, which are far more damning, as they are the only ones with explicit sexual references, are from just over a month ago!
Dems don't play the way Rove does. Rove does that kind of crap all the time!
Foley is a pervert and is going down for it...just like a whole lot of other Republicans right now! Religious right my a**!

Have you not heard of scummy liberal politics? this is actually quite common place for the democrats to pull this kind of tactic. Why, someone in their infected ranks actually called for the resignation of Dennis Hastert. And, these are the people that want to run this country!
As I understand it, Foley has been on the watch list for a few years, obviously if you and I know that, the democrats have known it, too. For how long, is any body's guess. That being the case, it seems to me that Foley is being outed for political reasons, not moral reasons.
Knowing this, I believe the fair minded citizen and voter, would reflect this thought at the polls. I think too, the democrats should be taken to task for their sleazy, cheap shot tactics.
We all know that Foley is a preditor, we all know he is a homosexual( not that there's anything wrong with it), we all know he has destroyed public trust, and we all know he should have resigned. This is not a political issue, it is a moral issue, and for anyone in the House of Representatives who knew this and did nothing about it, until it was politically expedient, should also be asked to resign.

The reason it is coming out now is that the Republican leadership hushed it up and failed to investigate for over a year, even though it was apparently well known that Foley had a thing for Congressional pages. Had they taken action sooner, instead of waiting until the "smoking gun" emails finally came out last week, they would not have been facing this scandal right before the election.

It's all about timing. Timing is the key with everything political. The fact is Foley did what he did. No getting around that.
Will this affect my voting this Fall. Ummmm! No!
There's rats on both sides of the aisle some get caught some don't. Be glad this rat got caught. Maybe it'll keep these politicians on the edge. No politician should ever believe his /her job is secure.

Yup. In fact, Bill Clinton specifically recruited the attractive teenage boys three years ago and prepped them for their work in seducing Foley. He was actually over their shoulders while the IMs and Emails were being exchanged.
It's simple - Republican leadership could have nipped this in the bud nearly a year ago. They chose not to. It has come back to haunt them. It's Foley's fault and it's the Republican leaderships fault for not doing the right thing when they had the chance.

If the allegations against Foley are true, i think he should pay the consequences for his actions. I am not passing judgment on anyone, but if you do the crime you must do the time. I am a registered democrat however, I would not put it past the democrats if they were responsible for the timing of the release of this information.

LOL - do you dismiss conspiracy theories that the Govt had anything to do with 9/11? I was wondering when people who thought their blood red leaders were flawless would come out and accuse the dems of releasing the info. It doesn't matter.
It was ken star and the reps who outed Clinton, but he was guilty - did it matter then if it was a partisan ploy?

So, now the Democratic party did what??? Did you ever think the pages may have come forward?? If he is a child preditor, wouldn't it be GOOD to find him out??
Gad, next you will say that a democrat invented the emails!
He has been sick for a long time, isn't it about time he should be caught??????????????????
Democrat or Republican, he is sick & it is out in the light now!
And, if he happened to be a Democrat, would your question be the same?????
I hate partisan crap...
