being a thug or a gangsta just means that you protect the turff on which you live in. it's not necessarily about hurting others but if there is any disrespect on the turff and someone comes in and hurts someone in your turff then that's when they start hurting. it's more like their a family and too them making money and having order in the turff is more important. they don't go out looking for drama but if it come's no one backs down. it's just the way things are in the hood. it's their way of living and people just got to learn to except that.

It's not alluring, but the overall media has convinced the world that it is. It's as though everyone has to play out a fasad of being tough to impress others or to say "don't F with me". It is a shame that good deeds, (some of you probably chuckled just from reading that) or talent can't be as impressive as how many dudes you shot.

Not that I'm an expert or have any experience with this, but I don't think it's about hurting people. I think it's more about making money and getting respect. Hurting people comes with the territory.

For the kids really in it; the belonging to a group like a family... For the outsiders, all the crap they see on T.V. and in music (which isn't even the real thing!)...

society has truly adopted the "every man for himself" attitude.
because of this, any sign of kindness, compassion, or benevolence is perceived as weakness. the exact opposite of kindness, compassion, and benevolence is the thug mentality of "i'm doing what i gotta do, fukc the rest of you, get in my way and see what happens."
it's just a way of coping with fear and insecurity.
