There is no such thing as "the finance profession". There are financial institutions (commercial banks, brokerages, investment banks, insurance companies, investment management firms) and financial functions (usually run by treasurer and controller) in non-financial companies. There is very little, if any, overlap between what different financial institutions do; there is even less overlap between what financial institutions do and what financial functions in non-financial companies do.
