Hello,

I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and as far as finding any books that disclose our history, you would not be able to obtain them. They are only provided to members through our National Headquarters.

However, there are other places online that you can find information about my sorority...the first place that I would advise you start is http://www.aka1908.com, our national website. There you will be able to obtain some basic information about the history of our organization. Also, many chapter webpages have general history on them.

If you know any Sorors, talk to them, although I am sure that they will not give you any information that would be a sacred trust, they will be able to point you in the right direction as far as finding out general sorority information.

Honestly, the national website should give you a good enough foundational history on the sorority and it's membership requirements on both a graduate and undergraduate level you may not need any other resource. But if you search the web appropriately, basic information is there for you to find.

But again, Official history books are only available through our National Headquarters to members.

Your best source for insight into the organization would be the National website and members of the sorority.

If you are an individual with an intersest in AKA then it probably would not be as easy to attain such information. If you are a sister then their should be resources within your chapter or an alumnae chapter on how to gain the knowledge you are looking for. In general if you look into NPHC history books and at early chapters that were chartered you will be able to gain more information. I am uncertain of the reasoning for asking for the information but older members may be able to assist, if you know of any.

Best of Luck,
