It depends on a lot of factors, the person, the context, etc. For example, I'll curse to emphasize something around my friends, but in a business context I would never even think of cursing. Granted, I'm in college, so most of my social contexts allow the use of cursing without sounding ignorant, but I wouldn't, say, take a girl out to a nice dinner and curse around her.

Because sometimes, the only way to tame stupidity is to shock it.
Curse words are legal tazers... taking the fire out of the as*s of stupidity one moron at a time!
and I am living proof that all of the below (or most of the below) answers are 100% wrong!
I curse like a truck driver and my intellect, morals and manners are perfect! I know how to behave wherever I go.
My command of the Written rules of the English language are lacking but it is for a reason... When speaking to me however, You would never know it.
I am a NY-er. A; NY bred and born, Ginny and we curse. It is just what we do to vent and that's all it is. It has absolutely nothing to do with my ability to do, or not do anything. You are all wrong!
Personally, I feel that the kinds of people who are so against it are the same kinds of people who actually enjoy pissing people off to the point where they curse.
With snips and snide little comments and round the bend kinds of remarks that they feel make them more intelligent because they are just a little quieter with their prefered form of ignorance.
Neither way is any better, one is just more socially aceptable. I personally prefer the kind of person that lets you know where you stand by being obvious rather than the kind of sneeky, underhanded devious fu*ck wad that thinks highly of themselves for always getting away with being just as ignorant. because they never make it obvious.

A lot of them swear to get a reaction out of people. Then if anything is said to them about it, they have an excuse to swear some more. And some people don't know any better. And others think it's cool.

For some people frustration, rage and anger rule their worlds; self control and the inability to bite their tongues are their lives. It is sad that there are such a large number of people in society today who cannot control themselves enough to watch what they say, or how they say it.
