Neither, until they happened to be directly invasive. Having said this society must have rules, laws and regulations or you will have chaos and anarchy . There are prices one has to pay to live at all, including by themselves, you can not burn the pine needles in the summer under the tree cause you will burn the forest down, even though there are no humans around to stop you.
Life is what it is, you can not just run naked through the world with no constrains on your life, for it alone puts some automatically, because you will always run into the thrones bush once in awhile.

Society has placed a great deal of burden on families, because of their politically correct ideas on raising children.
We now have parents afraid of disiplining their children for fear that if the child doesn't get what he wants, he yells abuse. and even if they are able to prove this to be unwarrented, they are still stigmatized by others. Because of the new laws put into affect, which go from the sublime to the ridiculous.
We have interfering so called religous leaders forcing their ideas and often misinterpited ideas on weather we have the right to pull the plug so to speak, on someone who is brain dead, which I'm sure in my own mind that God never intended to happen. Just because they can keep them alive by machines, doesn't mean that we should. That's why it's so important to have a Living Will. and to give your spouse, or next of kin the authority to carry out the patience's wishes, if they can't speak for themselves
I wouldn't want to raise a family in today's society, where the children can treat their elders with disrespect, and have no respect for anyone, let alone themselves.
I grew up in an era, where spankings were allowed. I'm not talking about beating a child, which I am as against as any welfare child protection agency is. I don't believe in verbal abuse, or calling a child demeaning names either, but when all else fails, I guess I'm old fashioned and do believe in spankings. I think we wouldn't have the disrepectable, undisiplined. and children with no self disipline that we have today.
When the child welfare agencies, who can come and often take a baby on the flimsiest excuses, because the angensies can get $10:00 dollars for every child they can get adopted, and I found this on the web, when national statistics show that only 30% nation wide have cases of true abuse, and negect, it should tell us something. Each state can get $3.00 for every $2:00 spent on a child in state custidy, it doesn't take much of anything to get a child taken away these days. Just a phone call from some digruntled neigbhor, who wants to get even for some alleged misdeed against them.
In case you want to know who put these insane laws into affect, you can blame former Pres, Clinton for this, and his wife who was, I believe.really running the show.
We are at the the beginning of BIG BROTHER IS WHATCHING YOU type of government.
So to some it up; Do I feel burdened by the demands of society, religion, family and law? You'd better believe it! Do I feel protected ? Not only no, but HELL NO!

I live in India, born to so called Hindu religion and very open cast of Nair in a middle class educated family so all are understanding and there is no compulsion on anything on me. I didn't go to temple(hindu worship place) for about 10 years. Nobody asked me why? nobody compelled. When I thought of getting married to a different cast, nobody compelled me to get married to same cast but only told about pros and cons. As far as Indian law is concerned it is as equallent as non-existent. Considering all these, there is no protection and no demand....

I don't think it can be black and white, there is such an opportunity for gray areas here. I feel protected or at least a sense that protection is a right, I also feel that religion can provide a believer a sense of security but as a mother it is my job to provide those things to my children and that is a huge weight to carry, a burden but not an unwelcomed one.

Burdened, because the laws in each category you mentioned contradict the others. For instance, religion says "spare the rod and spoil the child". Use said rod and it's child abuse according to the law. There are many other examples, but you get the idea.

Neither burdened or protected.
These are either for guidance or just mandatory for an orderliness in the society.
Only situation can tell the effectiveness of these !
We are to be guided by our own wisdom in all these matters, why and how to follow religion, demands of society and law !

probably.. but without the demands of society, religion, family and law, it will be more burdened too...
sometimes, too much freedom means less fun.
rules are made for reasons and the sense of breaking the rules once in a while that makes life more interesting.
but when you live with or without the rules, it's boring!
