i'm currently applying to university to study history and english and am really struggling with what exactly would look best on my section 10 (also known as personal statement). any tips and advice would be much appreciated.

You need to play to your strengths, describe any hardships you've endured, and explain why you have a passion in the area you wish to study and why you want to study it more than anyone else ever has.
