Daughter started to drive car to school this AM. She says she turned a corner, and teh whole car started to shake. Continued to drive and had to stop for a red light. Once stopped, car would not engage in either reverse or drive. Is the problem more likely drive train or transmission related? Please help. Thank you.

Hard to say, but I'd bet transmission with the shaking and no loud "Bangs" that would indicate a problem drive line. Drive line also it wouldn't keep going to the red light, it would quit right there.

You won't know for sure of course until your mechanic looks at it.

Could be both drivetrain and or trans. Probably broke a constant velocity joint which is attached to the trans but easier to reapir. i recomend replacing the entire 1/2/ shaft with a rebuilt unit rather than just replacing a CV joint and boot alone. Rebuilt shaft is cheaper and faster to replace.
good luck

if the car was still running when you couldnt engage drive or reverse than it is transmission related.

i'd imagine that it could be truly one of 6 issues. The starter is failing The starter solenoid is failing. it truly is regularly portion of the starter, in spite of the indisputable fact that I easily have considered them as a separate element positioned contained in the engine compartment. The starter relay is failing. this will be positioned contained in the fuse block, in spite of the indisputable fact that I easily have got here across them hidden contained in the wiring harness. The battery is failing. The battery cables are failing or have extreme corrosion on them. it truly is amazingly probable. The alternator is failing. Least probable.

probably raced it and messed up the tranny. Toyota are the best if you take care of them. That buy american guy does not know that U.S. cars are 60% chinese parts assembled in Mexico. only U.S. cars are Japanese.
