I bet £500 a year each would cover it. I would pay!

would need to take all the revenue that the broadcasters take from advertising companies and divide it amongnst all the viewers of the nation.

the future for tv will be the Internet....download what you like and the adverts will be on the site...almost like sky plus, without the adds...and the tv licence will eventually fall away as you won't transmit anything.

I had actually got the facts and figures to back this up but my browser crashed [i know you don't believe that, but i included links to the files i used so you can start from scratch if yoou really don't believe me]

£16 per channel is how much it would cost per person per year and that would be more on a leap year 'cause of the extra day.

Basically at last check Sky had around 300 channels so 300 x 16

£4,800 per person per year for just Sky

Then we have:

Sky 300+ channels,
Freeview 30+ channels
Telewest Broadband etc and others

Even if the same channel is on different providers the cost is counted once for each provider because it is essentially another channel [complicated I know]

Basically at the moment we aren't even paying the full price that we are meant to, we are meant to pay 4.7p an hour but we are only charged 32% of one year as it is impossible [well improbable] that you would watch TV 24/7 365 days a year [I know you may love it but you don't love it that much do you?]

You know John, If they did scrap the TV licence fee they would probably try to claw it back some other way. In my opinion you are wrong about the programmes on the BBC, In general, they have the classiest dramas, the best series for children i.e. Narnia, Dr Who etc. and the world renown Documentaries, to name but a few. Many Brits abroad rely on the BBC foreign service to enable them to enjoy some of the programmes they miss by being away from home. maybe they should make TV sets that only get ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 then people with the same views as yourself can opt out of paying the licence fee!

You can get Sky Plus and fast forward through the adverts so you dont have to watch them.

Advertising on the tv is cheap now because of this, have you noticed local firms pop up during breaks like Coronation Street. This used to be such an expensive slot.

You will find a lot more product placement in shows in the future

Not sure but I wouldn't want to pay anymore on an ordinary extortinate licence fee that we get bugger all for.

It is already a completely flawed concept that you should have to pay for something you don't want e.g. the BBC. People should be able to opt out and therefore not receive the channels that the licence covers.

then you are an idiot, and shouldn't go mouthing off about things like this because they might actually do it! The only reason anyone pays their TV licence at the moment is because it's illegal NOT to pay it!!!

What do they spend our money on? ten seconds-worth of synchronised swimming by some computer generated hippopotamuses!!! Don't give them MORE money, who knows what they would waste that on. Probably a feature-length episode of "Dinnerladies"......

Sorry, it makes me mad.

Probably around £500 and counting! The price goes up so fast!

count me in.

If all adverts were stopped then the money paid to sport would drop and everything would return to normal wages and TV sports rights again.

It'd be cheaper than we are lead to believe if the competition for TV rights were removed.
