Hives Caused by Ingestion or Inhalation
Approximately 70% of the time, what causes a case of hives cannot be determined. This list covers many of the common causes of hives, but is not exhaustive. These are things that you may want to consider cutting out if you have hives.

Ingestion or Inhalation
When the source of hives can be determined, most cases are caused by ingestion of a substance. Drugs can suddenly cause hives even if the person has been taking them for years. Many foods or food additives can also cause hives suddenly, even in small amounts. I am including inhaled allergens under ingestion because these are foreign substances that are taken into the body.

My brother and I get hives. First find out if it is an allergy to something by keeping a record of when they happen. If it isn't an allergy / you can't avoid the allergen then you may benefit from medication. My brother was given steroid cream to use when it flared up - but it takes about 30mins to help. I use Acrivastine anti-histamine which works in about ten minutes. If it's a big problem and happening every day, you could consider using hayfever medication as this might prevent hives from coming on.

Hives can be an allergic reaction. You can try an benedryl or something similar but your best bet is to go to the doctor and get a steroid shot.

I had an allergic reaction to a defoliant and ended up need 3 steroid shots and a 5 day prescription before I got over it.

Good Luck I know you feel miserable with the constant itch!

You need to find out what you are alleregic to and then avoid that. I get hives from having too much MSG - it's in a lot of food!, and from having anything with chamomile in it, and I'm also allergic to Yellow #5, but that just gives me breathing problems rather than hives. My friend gets hives if he has anything with milk in it.
Talk to your doctor, they should be able to help with allergy screening. In the mean time, get some antihistamines.

Maybe you need to go to an allergist. My son kept breaking out with hives when he was nine years old, and it turned out that he developed an allergy to red #40 and yellow #5 food coloring. These food colors are in most of the food that he was eating. The same thing happened to my sister (who's 40). She is allergic to yellow #5.

The best cure for hives is a medicine called antihistamines such as Benadryl. U also can use calamine lotion which is in a pink bottle. Ask your pharmacist about calamine it will help tons, along with benadryl.

Try going for a food allergy test - changing your diet might help?

Are you taking any medication you are allergic to (the last day of antibiotics drives me up the wall with a skin rash!)

Your best bet is to go to a doctor and probably obtain cortisone. While you are there, talk to you doctor about finding the reason(s) why you are experiencing hives.

Hope you feel better!

Benadryl is good to help immediately, but you should get skin patch tests done from your doctor, reffering you to a dermatoligist, good luck.
