Cheapest way is to use your bootable CD, the installation CD, to boot your machine. Then reinstall the OS if you want to.

Kinda lost with the question but i think i hav a answer for u. The hard drive that u have the problem with, put it on a nex computer as a secondary disk. Pull out yur files and burn them on a cd and run a scandisk. Here is the thing which maybe yur problem. If yur disk drive is NTFS Formatted, only XP and windows 2000 will recognize that Hard drive. If it is FAT32, any Operating system 98,me,2000, xp will recognize it. So check up on that. Norton Partition Magic 8 is a good program but u hav to buy it or u can get it on those torrents with the serial key. Laterz.

Hmm, how big are the drives? what OS are you running?

I am a little confused on your question..as i answered it once but deleted it because i thought you meant something else, at a 3rd read i am still confused...so

You have a computer with 1 or 2 hard drives?
Are you able to boot into any operating system AT ALL?

DO NOT put your drive in the freezer or a water proof container unless you are 100% confident in what you are doing...this procedure SHOULD ONLY BE CONSIDERED WHEN ALL OTHER OPTIONS HAVE BEEN EXHAUSTED.

A free file recovery program is PC Inspector File Recovery. You can download it from http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm

If the drive is no longer detected by the computer or is physically damaged to the point where it is no longer readable, the only option is to take it to a data recovery specialist. They charge in the hundreds of dollars to even make a recovery attempt.

Go to device manager and un-install the drive, then reboot the computer.

Remove your disk and put it in a water prove container, then, put it in a refrigerator for 3 or 4 hours after that plug in to your system and backup your data.

Note: Do not let water in to the container.
