the hype in the news about phone that screams when stolen, what is new about it? @ http://www.yahoo.com/s/404464. Symbian phones has that kind of feature (anti thief) some years back. Why is it now catching the media attention now..............everywhere in news and on net...........as if it's a new breakthrough in mobile technology.

Reading the press release, it's less about some breakthrough in technology as much as it's taking what we already know and coming up w/ something more useful.

I think the thing that is more interesting is that, once a phone is reported stolen, a message is sent to the phone to wipe out all personal info so that the thief can't access what's stored, which I think is just as damaging as getting the hardware itself. The thief can't activate the hardware even if he puts in a new SIM.

I think the screaming alert is just icing, an attention grabbing headline.
