Generally Australians are very easy going.
This is true about Melbourne but less so then further north. Melburnians are busy people living in a big city. Having said that, life is still cruisier than that in the world's big cities like London or New York.
Melbourne is more cultured than other cities in Australia. There are many cafes, bars and nightclubs. It is a very multicultural place, with many Asians and Europeans (particularly Greeks and Italians). So you can always find good food!
In summer, its all about beach, beers (Melburnians drink VB and Carlton Draught) and BBQs.
In winter its all about waking up in the morning very cold and going off to work and coming home when its dark.

Chaotic and busy. Extremely cold in the winter. But, it has a great nightlife. If that's your thing, Melbourne's your place.
