I'm A Brown Owl in London and use Hampstead Heath quite alot.
For my Brownies i Had flourecent card with pictures on. They would go around and find as many pictures as they could find, bring them back to our meeting point and then divided them into 3 sections 1 - what could stay in the woods or park
2 - what could be recycled
3 - what should be taken home to put in the rubbish.
If i havent explained this very well and you want to ask me more or i could help in any other way then you can email me: saucy_sweet_sarah05@yahoo.co.uk
(i have been running Brownies for 14 years)

One I often played with my Brownies was to divide them into groups of about 5 each, each team would be nominated a colour. I would then take copies of a picture stuck onto different coloured card to correspond with the colours of the teams. I would cut each picture up and hide them around the game site. Each team would them be let loose to find all the pieces in their team's colour, race back to base and complete the jigsaw.

To add to the environmental aspect, instead of a picture maybe use the country code instead, asking them to find all the laws and once they have them all some sort of activity could come from that...maybe asking them reasons why each law is important or something.

Or maybe each team could have a picture of a different risk to the environment and after all the pictures have been put back together they can be asked to think about what each person can do to help that problem.

I haven't done one on this theme myself I'm just sort of brainstorming whilst writing this!!

I hope you come up with something!

A scavenger hunt is always a good one and it takes up a lot of time.
Write the word ENVIRONMENT down the side of the page and send the kids off to fin as many things as they can, beginning with the letters of that word. Prizes can be given for the most items found or other things like most imaginative.
Alternatively, you can write a long list of things that you would like them to find, e.g. a leaf which has 3 points, a stone which is egg shaped, a piece of litter.
Hope this helps.
