On the whole it would be a lot better a lot of this terrorist stuff started when the British and other European powers cast off there colonies a strong English hand would have prevented a great deal of chaos. As for racism all countries evolve as the Brits ended slavery before us and now a days racism is no more a problem in Britain than anywhere else.

We wouldn't have a democracy, most likely the development of a democracy would have waited until later years. If we are to go back that long, the French would still have the Louisiana purchase. "America" would probably only consist of the 13 colonies. Napoleon's wars may have been different, as well World War I and Word War II may or may not have occured. Britain would have a massive tyrrany and/or we would be ruled by a king. California, Nevada and Arizona would all be part of Mexico which would still be part of Spain. It's called the Butterfly Effect.
I can't say if it is better or worse. That's how it would have been, unless rebels or other changed the course of history.

The whole world understands the British language not because we were a super power, which we were not, but because we were great colonisers in the main.
I doubt if there is a country that fares better today than it did when we were an Empire.
Empire meant responsibility not power and it was expected that the upper middle classes recognised their part in it.
The U.K. were benign developers who readily accepted their responsibilities without question.
This country of ours has given the world most of its basics and a lot of its principles.
Why do you think the world what's to live here?
Having looked at the answers I think it a bit thick when the U.S.A. had the French help them beat the U.K.
Who would have believed that today?
So much for favours eh!

The British were the first to rule and spread freedom at a barrel of a gun and neo-conservatism today. The people of the country are the only ones that can bring freedom to them. I think the British empire was a ticking time bomb.

My husband and I didn't lose our empire we gave it away.
Years ago we allowed those people British citizen ship. Dart it they took advantage and came to Britain also decided to opt out of the common wealth, also demanded we look after them. Sour grapes, to opt out after all we created the common wealth from all those countries we plundered and beat up over the years. There really was no British Empire my husband and I called it that, the countries were no more British than they are now.

probably as bad or worse .All the posh types would be lording it up in the colonies with big houses and servants, having tea and cucumber sandwiches,so the Natives would get peed off with them being superior(as they do)so then they would be having uprisings left right and center ,so the goverment would have to stop them by pulling us poor lower class types out from our council estates to fight them and get killed ,after which they could pat each other on the back over killing two birds with one stone(quelling the natives and less of the socially inferior to pay out dole money to)result a job well done.

it is a difficult question to answer but if you think of the 300 years we policed the world it was always turbulent so with all the modern military equipment and instant positioning of troop employment its a whole different scenario so I would hazard a guess and say it would not be better, but then policing the world never was as USA are finding out to their cost now
