Pretty much. It's a comforting bit of self-delusion to imagine that the world is a place where the righteous are rewarded and the wicked punished, where there's magic in the air and miracles on every street corner, where your heart's desire can be had just for the asking....
Funny how figures in authority enable the deception in both cases, and how we give up one so readily and cling so desperately to the other.....

That would depend on what you believe. If you honestly believe that God exists then the two would not be the same. The idea of Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, etc. is something that most people (at least Christians for the first 2) tell their children stories about, leading them to believe that these characters actually exist, while we all know that they do not...in essence lying. While on the other hand, if you are a person of faith and do believe in God, then telling your child that there is a God is not a lie.

Yes and no. Santa is fictitious, as adults we all know that. God on the other hand cannot be proved or disproved, so there is still a chance that God exists. I think that it is wrong either way, kids should not have religion pushed on them. When they reach the maturity level do decide what they believe then they can make their own decision. Santa just adds excitement to the whole Christmas holiday, it does not have to be religious or anything.

Telling him about Santa, inspires in the child how to have faith. Santa answers letters to him, God answers prayers. They are parallel. Although you need to explain the difference to your child. Sometimes God answers prayers in a way toyu cannot see right away. God keeps us safe. Etc. Santa just brings present when your sleeping so you better be good for Goodness sake.

No, they're fundamentally different. Telling your child to believe in Santa is more widely accepted and holds no spiritual impact. Encouraging your child to believe in God could have a life alterring impact on your child that some would hold as essential and others would reguard as child abuse. It's the equivelent of asking if riding your bike to the corner market is the same as riding a 3 Billion dollar Space Shuttle to Mars. Simular but very different is scale.

No, santa is a fictional character, Jesus was a "real" man who walked this earth and died for our sins. He is God's son and the creator of the world. Children can understand this better and that is why Jesus told us to be like little children and trust Him.

well, santa is based on mythical childhood beliefs that are shared just for tradition and to develop a good grasp of imagination and spirit. however, encouraging a child into religion is very much different. adapting your child to your religious beliefs and customs is kind of... appropriate i think, if youre religious anyway. it helps keep them familiar with theyre family's beliefs and customs and religion characterizes you kinda. i think so anyway. its a way of life that a person must find suitable for them individually. so its important also to keep the kids open minded to learn about different religions.

No, it's more dangerous than that. Santa is just a cute story, while God is a fervent extremist. Believing in God brings a new paradigm to life, where nothing is your fault, everything will be ok in the end cause God is there (so why would you need to fix it), and you are going to heaven so you don't have to worry. It's very dangerous.

Not at all.
I would not push the Santa thing.
God gives eternal life.
God gives your Child tools to stay off of Drugs, away form pre-marital sex and immorality, tools to help them become healthy, happy productive adults.
Do you have kids?
I do and would much rather they follow Gods laws than what they push on MTV.
Peace!
