If a broadband provider sets a limit of 3GB to 30GB transferrable limit what does this mean and how much is it if you only use internet to play games and do research.

A transfer limit is the maximum amount of data you can send and receive in a given period, usually per month. Going above this amount usually results in a warning from the ISP, constant abuse can result in you being disconnected.

If you're constantly playing online games every day, you may hit your limit often with a limit of 3gb, but will be fine with 30gb. Browsing isn't too bandwidth intensive, so you would be ok with a smaller limit.

home usage here in Australia 512mb download 128mb upload is restrictive I have 1500mb 256mb I may not use that much in a couple of months 3Gb thats twice 1500mb 30Gb well thats 10 times but I don't play games or download movies I am curious to know how much you are charged for that I am paying $129 per month broadband

Thats enough for your requirments.
Its only if you download films and games a lot, you would need more.
