Pc speakers are a sticky wicket in that you get what you pay for. you wouldn't pay 40 bucks for a stereo for your tv and dvd, the same should apply to pc speakers. avoid altec lansing at all costs. Try logitesh or jbl, good stuff

check to see if your volume is off of mute or your media player is not on mute, I bought some $40 Altec Lansing speakers they came with two speakers and one sub they have lasted me a year and still going strong. Also make sure they are plugged into the back of your computer into the right socket (Green usualy)

Well my friend one can not be that sure its not the new speakers , but lets take it this way.
go in to my computer , clink on the control panel. in the control panel clink on sound and check that the sound is not muted, and the volume is not off. then check if the sound is back.
2. disconnect the speakers and re connect making sure the you plug them in the correct sockets. and check is has to work. if not check the speakers with another device to be sure the are okey.

Infantile failure in electronics is a common thing. If anything is going to fail on a computer or other electronics it will usually occur early in their life. The speakers are probably shot.
