It was really needed in the late 1970s/early 1980s. Britain's economy was on the ropes for various reasons and unemployment wa very high, especially in the early 1980s. The UK would have been in serious trouble without the oil revenues.

yes i think the £1000 billion has been wasted and no one can tell you where it has gone and if we had held back it would be £2000 billion but where would that have gone also So it makes no difference really
