Some acting work advertised on there. Buy 'The Stage' paper - lots advertised on their. But primarily you need an agent - look in 'Spotlight' in library to find reputable agents - there are 100 dodgy ones for every real one so beware!

Depends on what kind of acting you want to do. If you are interested in theater, contact local community theaters and find out when they hold auditions. Also find out if they are paying jobs or volunteer. Then check your local paper or look online for show reviews and see what theaters get good reviews and audtion for their shows. You may have to earn some street cred by doing free shows, but if you are good, you will start to get offers to do paying shows.
Also there is a national audition usually held in Tennesse for non-equity actors. You basically have an opportunity to audition for hundreds of theater companies and agents in one location. This is a great opportunity for young actors.

Link up with an aspiring scriptwriter and create a short piece for yourself. See if your local pub will star you on Saturdays. When you have it sorted, ask the guys at the King's Head Islington what they think.
Or get a funny book eg a Tom Sharpe/ Tale of the Angel (J R Moss) and inspire yourself into a monologue of one of the characters.

No, you do not need an Equity card but it would be better to be a member.
No, you do not have to be yourself (worst answer yet).
Do take note that is usually a script-based profession and a good grasp of English in spoken and written form is essential.
