I have gotten to ware I don't pay any attention to what the politicians say I know that they aren't going to do anything so why get my hopes up. The politicians of the U.S.A. want to look good and be politically correct while still being irresponsible to their own country. Yes I am an American but I don't agree with the politicians not taking responsibility for the state that the country is in. They want to blame it on everything and everyone else and not take it personnally. I would like them to go and stay where they put some of the kids in the foster system or some of the homeless shelters where people are better off in the street than to stay in one of them. Poverty is based on the fact that the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer. If you will notice everytime the middle class starts to increase then something happens so that the people loss money and end up going right back to being poor. It's all a game of greed. That's what my personal opinion is.

The aid that goes to other countries comes with strings attached to it that are more like shackles than life-lines. Things like agreements to open up a country's markets to U.S.-based corporations and restrictions on a sovereign country's rights to make legislation which protects their people and resources. It's bad enough that a few countries refuse the aid even though they need it.

This is often very basic things like water rights, set to become a bigger and bigger issue with climate change (which the puts the lie to the White House insistence that it isn't happening). "Aid" packages force a country to let foreign conglomerates take control of the water supply and sell it back to the people living there.

Or say a country wants to restrict imports on certain products so that their own industry can develop. Makes a lot of sense, right? That's not allowed under the aid requirements, so the local industry can't develop itself to the point that it can compete with U.S. industries and the country remains dependent on others for many products. It will also need to continue to borrow to pay for those goods, which perpetuates the entire cycle.

So it's really quite simple, you see. They force other countries' governments to act in ways which benefit multinational corporations rather than the local people. They have no interest in ending poverty there, or here, and their actions actually hinder economic independence in nations which are forced by circumstances to receive their 'aid.'

It might be different if America had a parliamentary system, which can call early elections. Lobby groups hold too much influence in our government.

American politicians know people have a short memory and can listen to lobbyist once the new term in office happens for the elected official.

We spend $20-$22K PER CITIZEN per YEAR for Israel because they pay lobbyist with connections in all branches of our government. Compare with the minimal amount we spend on Russia, because Russia is prohibited by law from sending lobbyists to Washington, DC.

With this insight you will understand why the poor of America don't get nothing because they have nothing in the way of lobbyists.

UN votes.

All of these littele countries get to vote on policy in the UN, so the US gives them aid to ensure they don't vote against us as much.

Other valid reasons have been pointed out as well, such as access to labor markets and customers.

Palestinians recently bit the many hands that fed them (by electing Hamas) look at the turmoil caused by that lack of graft. Now Hamas militiamen are shooting thier own people who are protesting for their government wages. Other countires notice this and do what they can to keep the subsidies coming.
