Well, be aware that doing any system recovery may erase some files from your hard drive, even when you only run a recovery without a full format. I would back anything you absolutely need first onto a CD-ROM first.
You will need your original Windows CD to run a system recovery. Once you have backed up your important files onto CD-ROMs, you want to put your Windows CD in, turn off your computer, and turn it back on. Make sure you select to "boot from CD" when and if your screen asks for this option (sometimes computers are configured to automatically boot from CD first --- sometimes they are not). Once you boot from the CD, your screen should turn blue and you just follow the instructions on the screen.
You will have a few choices.... format or "erase" the hard drive (if you have everything backed up, I recommend this option) or recover or "reinstall" your operating system. Use recover or reinstall if you dont want to completely wipe your hard drive, and just want to reinstall Windows.

If you go to control panel and run the system restore it will ask for a date to when you want your computer to be restored. If you ask for a week ago or yesterday it will act as if ur computer forgot a week or a night and will return to the past state of how it used to be.

Can you reconstruct past Aug.'06 after system restore? This is the only option you now have.
Check to see why your computer did not have system restore turned on:
My Computer ->right click ->Properties ->systemrestore tab. The checkbox 'Turn off SR on all drives' must be blank.(NO checkmark)
I guess formatting is probably not your preferred option. Otherwise, use your backups. I guess you know this already.

there is one other option, but you better be sure it's what you want because it is not reversible.
when you're computer is first turned on press F8 repeatedly until you see a screen with startup options like safe mode etc.
one option is called (last known good configuration).
hit that and it will restore your computer to a time all was well.
the only other way is to backup everything you want saved and format your hard drive back to nothing
you must have your winxp disks and all other program discs so you can reload them.
if you don't know what you're doing take it to a reputable computer place or you will have a big paperweight on your desk

you realize that photograph you created once you first ran you computer making use of, what became into it Norton Ghost or Acronis genuine photograph. nicely in simple terms load that and it will write over each and everything. Oh... You did not try this... nicely appears like a sparkling deploy will do the trick. you realize. First deploy the homestead windows os, then the motherboard drivers, then the video drives and then the appliance for any enlargement enjoying cards you have put in.

If you have the new Norton antivirus it has a "go-back" file in order for you to restore it to it's original. Or you can go into your system files and it has a restore program.

system recovery not system restore. when you buy a computer or laptop they include a system recovery cd. or if you dont have one, you can see it by turning your computer on and press f12 or f3 something like that, and it will lead you to reformating your computer. if you have norton goback, you can use it to restore it to it's original state. i, thank you..

you need to run 'system recovery" , not system restore. Why type of computer is it? Try holding f8 or f9 or f10 when your computer boots up, one of those high fkeys should start system recovery when your system boots

You may have to run your start up disks. This will put your computer back to the way it was when you purchased it. It will wipe out anything you have put on it such as yahoo messenger etc. Good luck :)
