Yes, swimming is excellent as it exercises many different muscle groups, especially if you vary your strokes (front crawl, breast stroke etc...). It is also low impact so doesn't stress bones, joints and muscles as much as something like running does.

Obviously the faster you swim, the more calories you'll burn in the 40 mins you swim for so, if you don't already, do a bit of slow swimming to warm yourself up then push yourself a bit by swimming faster.

How much time it'll take to burn fat and gain muscles really depends on your metabolism, and also what you eat will affect it (for example don't expect to get a nicely toned body if you eat piles of chips each day!). But after a couple months of swimming you will definitely notice a difference.

Add some sit-ups, press-ups and some cycling (in a gym or on the road) into your exercise routine and you'll notice the effects sooner.

Definatly swimming is 1 of the only exercises apart from jogging that helps you lose Fat and uses every single muscle in your body, It also keeps your bones well flexed and you can defiantly gain muscles doing it especially altering between front and bacstroke. Find some exercises to do in the pool for fun and safety and do a quick warm up so you don’t pull anything. Keep swimming for about 4 months for a good result but by that time you wont want to stop.

How hard do you swim (pace)? Swimming, like anything (walking, biking, jogging), works best when you push yourself. You should be sweating a little and breathing hard for at least 30-minutes. Yes, you will lose fatt and gain muscle swimming. My freshman year in college, I lost 25-pounds and 2-inches off of my waist. Of course that was 15-years ago, and I have gained 5-times the amount back (as well as 10-inches). I need to find a pool myself.

Hi, ive transformed my body in the last 8 months i use to be a very hard gainer at 130 lbs 5'10 very skinny with no muscle with a little fat so no six pack, i have now gained 40 pounds standing at 170 and ripped, ive learned alot, and what you could do to get ripped is first join a gym and make sure you workout every muscle in youre body because it will raise youre HGH (human growth hormones) and you cannot get bigger if you just do arms and abs, what i do is a workout regimen like this day 1:chest day 2:back day 3:rest day 4:legs day 5:arms and shoulders day 6:rest and then just do abs whenever When you first start to workout you might get sore very easy so you could do full body workouts for about a month but after that make a plan like mine, and make sure to have the rest cause thats when youre actually building muscle. And the other thing you have to focus on incredibly is diet, if you are skinny and wanting to gain you want to have a lots of complex carbs such as brown rice, pastas, wheat bread etc. and about 1.5 grams of protein per body weight and good fats such as nuts, olive oil, and fish. a good ratio to have is a 40%/40%/20% protein, carb, and fat. whatever weight you want to be take that number and multiply it by 19 and thats about how much calories you need to take in to weigh that much. ok so take all this ive told you and make it happen! the most important thing is dedication, i have learned to love bodybuilding and i hope you make a transformation, good luck!

It's one of the best forms of exercise because you use your whole body in harmony and the water supports your weight so you don't strain anything. Three times a week is good, five is better. You won't "bulk up" from swimming like you would with weights but aver about 3 mos you should be very sleek and toned and in condition.

Yes, swimming is the best all around workout with NO impact on your body, like running.

I have been swimming a few times a week for 15 years, I love it!!

Yes swimming is a great form of exercise, brilliant for toning up muscles, great for your heart and lungs (cardio Vascular) . Cant beat it. like everything in life though, it is not an answer in itself. You have to eat healthilly not consume heaps of alcohol and dont smoke. Plenty of fruit and veg, stay away from fast and processed food. Just eat well and keep it up, it will come but you must give it time.
