You can generally break up computers into categories as follows:
1. The personal pc
2. The mini computer w/multiple user capabilities
3. The main frame computer w/multiple user capabilities
4. The Server computer used to service network clients.

Of course the lines are crossed between these types of computers especially the server which can be implemented on any of the other 3 types.

same here, we have got an eMachines Media Center with Digital TV downstairs, a server computer upstairs, which just runs 24/7, a laptop, and another computer on top of the wardrobe, which has happily been collecting dust for over 12 months.

Do you mean Windows, Apple MACS, Linux for instance? Can't think of a fourth one at the moment (assuming this is what you're asking about!)
